7 reasons Nigerians are so obsessed with religion

Nigerians are one the most religious people in the world, yet, there is so much hate, corruption, tribalism and violence in the country.
Most Muslims and Christians are deeply involved in their respective mosques and churches where they are taught to love one another but they are always attacking each other.
Why Nigerians are so obsessed with religion
There are too many religious people in Nigeria and you sometimes wonder if Nigerians can do without religion. They go to their worship centers everyday but hardly adhere to the teachings of their faith.

Here are some reasons why Nigerians are so religious.
1. It is a norm
Most of the people who claim to be Christians are just mere church goers who grew up knowing that you have to go to church every Sunday, give offerings and tithe and say your prayers every day. They are religious because it what they learnt from their parents.
2. They need to believe in something
Nigerians are religious because they need to believe in something. No religion means nothing to believe in. A lot of people just want to believe in something they cannot comprehend. People want to look up to something higher than them and would do anything to hold that belief.
3. Miracles
Nigerians love miracles more than and most pastors have capitalized on this to fleece members of their hard earned money. They know some gullible Nigerians will pay any amount for miracle. Some people would be at the point of death and would rather go to their pastor for prayers than go to the hospital where they can get medical attention. This is why you see the miracle churches and their pastors blossoming while their members struggle to survive.
4. Everybody is doing it
Nobody wants to be that rebel who does not believe there is a higher power. Every member of your family, all your friends are so engrossed in religion and you just want to feel among.
5. Escape
For most Nigerians, religion is an escape route from all the challenges they are facing. A lot of people find solace in churches and mosques.
6. Fear of the unknown
A lot of people depend on their pastors and Imams for prophecies and predictions about the future. In Nigeria, so much has been said about witches that people are afraid of falling victims. So, they have to depend on religion to save them or deliver them from those evil witches who are always plotting their downfall and causing them misfortune.
7. Motivation
Some pastors and Imams are such motivational speakers that they can bamboozle anybody with their speeches. The way they will speak about prosperity will have you believing that it comes by praying and sowing seed alone without working for it
